Ellis, 64, was founder and director of the Electronic Music Center at North Texas State University, which has the second synthesizer made by electronic music pioneer Robert Moog. Ellis appeared in the central and southwestern United States performing electronic and intermedia music, which uses other media other than sound. His works were widely performed and recorded. He had been honored every year since 1966 by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
